Earth's Deepest Note
Patchouli divides the room and owns it either way. Steam-distilled from the fermented leaves of organically grown Pogostemon cablin, our dark patchouli offers the deep, earthy, wine-like character that ages more gracefully than almost any oil in the cabinet.
Shop Organic Patchouli OilPatchouli essential oil is steam-distilled from the shade-dried, lightly fermented leaves of Pogostemon cablin, a bushy mint-family plant cultivated in Indonesia and India. Ours comes from certified organic growers, and like fine wine, the oil deepens and smooths as it ages in the bottle.
The aroma is famously earthy and dark: damp forest floor, sweet wine cellar, cocoa, and aged wood in one glass-stoppered package. As a base note and natural fixative it anchors rose, geranium, bergamot, and sandalwood, and it defined the scent of an entire generation.
Patchouli grounds incense and perfume projects, gives handmade soap a lasting earthy signature, scents dreadlock and hair oils, and holds down the base of diffuser blends. A bottle set aside for a year becomes noticeably rounder, so buying two is a legitimate strategy.
